The subject of tongues continued

We've discussed in a previous post how the biblical doctrine of speaking in tongues (or praying in the spirit) is in line with the Word of God, is the evidence or proof of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, and did not stop happening after the Day of Pentecost. But what is it there for? Why do we need to speak in tongues? What purpose does it serve?

1 Corinthians 14:2 says, "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries." Not unto men, but unto God. When we pray in tongues, we are speaking directly to God! Not only that, but when we pray in tongues, we are moved of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:11 says, "For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God." No one knows the things of God but the Spirit of God, and when we pray in tongues, we pray the perfect will of God as the Spirit gives us utterance.

What amazing capabilities our Father has given us! Not to live through life as "sinners saved by grace", but to be in perfect communion and fellowship with the living God!!!

Not only that, but James 4:8 says, "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." When we pray in tongues and speak to God, He will speak to us! When you are in the secret place, drawing nigh to God, speaking to Him, you will find that the Holy Spirit will show you things that you need to pray for, areas that you need to work on, things you can do to help people, and all number of things.

The Baptism in the Holy Ghost is not a one time thing! It is an everyday, moment by moment, hour by hour, minute by minute decision! A decision to stay full of the Spirit, to walk in the Spirit. Take your place in the anointing! We are living in the end times, and things are speeding up. The momentum is building! These are exciting times to be living in, but living by the power of the Holy Ghost is of the utmost importance. We have to stay in communication with the only one who knows what's really going on. Who could that be? The Beginning and the End! The Alpha and the Omega! He created this world, and He knows how it's going to end. Only He knows what He has planned for you today, tomorrow, and the next day. That is why it is so important to pray in tongues, to stay full of the Holy Ghost.

If you aren't communicating with God, you could miss something vital! You could miss an opportunity to pray for someone that gets healed and turns their life over to Jesus. If you aren't hearing what God has to say, then you can't obey His voice, and you won't hear His voice if you aren't listening.

Have you ever been sitting in a room with a large group of people, or maybe you were sitting with a group of friends, and you just catch part of a conversation? You don't really understand what they're talking about until you hear the whole thing. Don't miss out on what God has to say! I mean, think about it! This isn't Billy Joe down the street who wants to know if he can borrow your lawnmower - this is GOD. Do you really want to miss something HE has to say? He not only created you, but He wants you to be blessed beyond your ability to even contain the blessings!

All you have to do is listen, and obey. Get in the presence of God so you are able to listen! Stir yourself up!

Until next, Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: To whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. (Galatians 1:3-5 KJV)

Kristopher... thank you very much for your response. I found your experience very interesting. I still have many doubts that i hope you can help me answer.

Have you ever, in your life time, taken "magic mushrooms". I feel that people who have often can convert feelings of excitment or happiness into physical feelings more so than people who haven't and this may account for the fellings you felt

Lets say god does exist. then how was god created? For example, Before we knew the earth was round a philospher asks a women "what holds the world up?" the lady responsed "the world rests on the shell of a giant turtle" the philosopher then asked "well then what holds up the turtle?" the lady laughed and said "Honey, it's turtles all the way down". my point is god created us but who/what what created god? I do not know how we got here but there is a better explanation than god waved his magic wand and poof adam and eve.

3.) Is there a more logical explanation, lets say for example a philosopher living during the time of the bible. Decides that in order for the world to be peaceful there must be a higher set of laws. Laws that go beyond governments. Laws that if obeyed will bring peace to the world for eternity. Thus, the philosopher realizes that the one thing people fear is a superior intellectual race. Similiar to why you can't typical go up to a squarrel and pet it, and why you would run away if a UFO came and tried to pet you. My point is that By creating the IDEA of a superior being, this philosopher has created what we consider today as morality. We shouldn't obey the ten commandmants because god tells us to. we should obey them because it makes the world a better place to live in. thus, by writing the bible and creating religion this philosopher has made created what he believes will be world peace. The idea of heaven and hell is perfect reward/punishment because no one can prove it exists yet no one can prove it doesn't exist.

Furthermore, if god is almighty then he would be perfect? thus, if he created us, we would be perfect, clearly we are not perfect or else we wouldnt need god to tell us what to do. Furthermore, how can you jsutify the outragous number of child molestors in the priest hood? furthermore, the ten commanments mention the use of "slaves". This is clearly the flaw of a human. How can the world say slavery is bad, yet god says slaves are ok, as long as you give them the sabbath off. In a thousand years the bible will be treated no differently than Homer's - Odessey and the Illiad. Clearly at one point someone believed what we called today as mythology.

why does god demand praise? exodus 20:5 "for I the Lord your God am a jealous God"....God? jealous? if you are almighty, you can create and destroy anything at anytime. If he wanted us to believe in him so much then he needs to prove it. Or use his powers to make us believe. The reason you feel these fellings you feel in church is because you know that you are doing a good thing. When you have kids one day and they come up to you and say dad thanks for everything you have done for me, i am so happy with the life you have given me. I promise you the rush of emotions will be stronger than any feelings you have felt in church or being touched by the lord almighty.

again i hope i am not offending you in anyway. I am not attempting to impose my views upon you. my only goal is to fully understand the purpose of life so i can live my life more efficiently

Well, I don't want to steal Kris' thunder (I know he'll have lots to say on the subject) but let me see if I can shine some light on the subject.

First, God was not created at all. God has always been and always will be--he is eternal. Eternity is something that is hard for our limited minds to wrap around, but God is, being God, beyond space and time. The Bible has a lot to say about eternity, promising eternal life to those who put their faith in Jesus, and eternal damnation to those who do not. The book of Genesis shows how God created the earth. The books of Job and Revelation shine some light on events that took place even before that. Isaiah 57:15 tells us that God inhabits eternity, and Jesus claimed in John 8:58 "Before Abraham was, I AM."
Furthermore, the very thing that keeps this earth moving in space, that keeps the sun from burning out, that even keeps the breath moving in and out of your body is the word of God. Hebrews 1:3 says, "Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His Person [refering to Jesus], upholds all things by the word of his power..." Whether you believe it or not, God is the reason you are here.
